waveOrder

Modeled microscope components and animated the imaging workflow in Blender for Video 3 of the waveOrder preprint.

Overview

This project focused on creating a technical animation for waveOrder, an open-source suite of computational microscopy tools developed by the Computational Microscopy Platform at CZ Biohub. It uses phase and polarization measurements to visualize cellular structures without stains.

I created the animation to make that imaging process easier to follow. My role was to study the existing technology, model microscope components in Blender, and animate the workflow; I did not develop the waveOrder microscopy software or imaging method.

Contribution and outcome

I designed the 3D scene, modeled the microscope components, animated the imaging sequence, and refined the timing and camera movement. The finished animation was included as Video 3 with the waveOrder preprint, which acknowledges my contribution.

The animation gives computational microscopy researchers a visual introduction to the imaging workflow before they move into the more detailed technical material.

Process

  1. Researched the core principles behind waveOrder and label-free microscopy.
  2. Modeled microscope components and imaging elements using reference material.
  3. Built and animated the workflow in Blender with attention to technical accuracy.
  4. Refined the final animation based on feedback and clarity.
